Edgar Wood Academy Celebrates First GCSE Results
Edgar Wood Academy is celebrating a landmark moment in its history as it proudly announces its first-ever GCSE results, marking another significant milestone following its recent successful Ofsted inspection.
The Academy's inaugural year 11 cohort has achieved a strong set of results, reflecting the dedication, resilience and ambition of students, staff and families since the school first opened its doors.
Students achieved 13 grade 9s and 114 grades 7-9, alongside strong pass rates across a wide range of subjects. There have been some particularly impressive achievements across individual subjects, with over 96% of students achieving pass grades in Science subjects and over 95% achieving pass grades in Languages contributing to Edgar Wood having the highest achieving MFL department in the local authority..
Among the individual Science successes, twins Mhaz and Umer achieved grades 7 and above across the separate Sciences – Chemistry, Biology and Physics – while Jezreet achieved 7, 7 and 6 across the three separate Sciences. All three students will now continue their educational journey at Rochdale Sixth Form College, where they will study A level Science-related subjects.
There have also been some fantastic individual achievements in Languages, with Megan achieving a grade 7 and Tiffany a grade 8 in French. Jason achieved an outstanding grade 9 in Chinese, while Olivia achieved an equally outstanding grade 9 in Polish.
Other achievements for the academy include overall pass rates of over 65% in Mathematics and over 68% in English, demonstrating the breadth of achievement across the first Edgar Wood Academy cohort.
These achievements follow the academy's recent successful Ofsted inspection, where inspectors recognised the school's high expectations, ambitious curriculum and positive culture, providing further validation of the exceptional education being delivered.

To celebrate our first GCSE results so soon after receiving such positive feedback from Ofsted makes this an especially proud moment in the Academy's journey. These students have helped establish the legacy of Edgar Wood Academy, and we could not be happier with what they have achieved."
Since opening, Edgar Wood Academy has established a reputation for high expectations, strong pastoral care and an ambitious curriculum that prepares students to succeed both academically and personally.
One of the many success stories is Alex, who achieved a phenomenal 6 grade 9s, along with 8s and 7s. Like many of this pioneering year 11 cohort Alex will now continue his educational journey at Rochdale Sixth Form College, and the Academy is incredibly proud to see so many students choosing one of the country's leading sixth form providers.
Overall, 42% of students are progressing to study A levels, with the vast majority continuing their education at Rochdale Sixth Form College. Other students will go on to study Level 3 vocational or T level courses, alongside a range of other exciting post-16 opportunities.
